We sat down with James Shaw, Assistant Director, to find out more about his experience and aspirations in the insurance world of Darwin Clayton.
How did you get started in the insurance industry, and what attracted you to insurance?
Having left college I was looking to start a career in the sector that would allow me to develop and specialise in specific areas.
What do you enjoy most about working at Darwin Clayton?
The people is what makes Darwin Clayton truly special. I’ve been with the company for 32 years, and throughout that time, we have always worked closely together with a real family feel. Certainly, a reason me and others have been with the company so long!
What are the biggest challenges and rewards in your current position?
On behalf of clients, ensuring we deliver the right outcome to their satisfaction and the reward of knowing we have delivered.
What skills do you consider essential for success in your role?
Leadership skills including supporting, listening and motivating.
Are there any areas of expertise you are particularly passionate about?
Understanding the development of our clients sectors and the insurance needs that come with that.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or passions you pursue?
Most sports although these days mainly from the armchair! I have completed half-marathons in recent years.
Are you involved in any community or volunteer activities?
I’ve previously helped run local football teams and been treasurer for my daughters schools PTA.
What are your long-term career aspirations?
To continue to be a key part of the Darwin Clayton team and Jensten group.
